Statistical Glossary

Two events A and B are said to be independent if P(AB) = P(A).P(B). To put it differently, events A and B are independent if the occurrence or non-occurrence of A does not influence the occurrence of non-occurrence of B and vice-versa. For example, if I toss a coin and you toss a coin, the probability that I get a heads is not influenced by the outcome on your coin so the two events are independent. If two events are not independent, then they are said to be Dependent Events.
