Thomas Hargis, CEO

Tom Hargis leads our strategic growth and business operations. Tom has been a senior executive in for-profit and nonprofit organizations, most recently as the Chief Operating Officer of The Online Learning Consortium, a nonprofit providing professional development courses, events, and community for higher ed professionals.  Tom attended American University for a B.A. in Liberal Studies and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Peter Bruce, Chief Academic Officer, Instuctor, Author, and Founder

Peter Bruce founded The Institute for Statistics Education at as a private company in 2002. His role now is to oversee academic affairs, seek out world-renowned statistical experts and work with them on developing new courses. Peter has taught statistics at the University of Maryland, and holds degrees from Princeton, Harvard, and the University of Maryland.


Valerie Troiano, Chief Operations Officer

Valerie Troiano directs operations for The Institute. She oversees student services, enrollment and registration, faculty support, scheduling of 100+ courses, and the learning management system. She holds a degree from Northwestern University.



Janet Dobbins, Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Business Development

Janet Dobbins handles outreach, communication and marketing for The Institute, and coordinates The Institute's presence at professional conferences. She also oversees the Institutes's web site, handling development, maintenance and benchmarking. She holds a degree from the University of Virginia.



Kuber Deokar, Instructional Operations Supervisor

Kuber Deokar is responsible for day-to-day coordination of The Institute's online courses, and ensures seamless interactions between the management team, course instructors, teaching assistants and students. He serves as senior teaching assistant, and teaches several courses. He holds a Masters degree in Statistics from Pune University, India, where he also taught undergraduate statistics.
