Overview

Today, the "big" in "big data" is coming increasingly from unstructured text. Mastering that text data is what text mining and analytics is all about. In this 3-course Mastery Series, you will cover the basics of text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP) while learning important methods of mining and analyzing text data using Python.  This Series will enable you to perform meaningful analyses with text and apply them into your projects, software, and real-world applications so you can use these skills immediately in your work or learning practicum.

Who This Mastery Serves

Enroll in our Text Mining Mastery Series if you are a student or professional looking to unlock the power of to understand the basic concepts, principles, and major algorithms in text mining and their potential applications, using Python. Related job titles include:
  • Data Scientist
  • Digital Marketer
  • Analytics Manager
  • IT Programmers/Developers
  • Scientists
  • Statisticians

Learning Outcomes

With a Text Mining and Analytics Record of Mastery, you will have an in-depth understanding of how to develop natural language applications, how to perform meaningful analyses with text and apply them to real-world applications, using Python.  You will be able to:
  • Process text data and strings, and perform pattern matching with regular expressions in Python
  • Preprocess and wrangle noisy text data via stemming, lemmatization, tokenization, removal of stop-words and more
  • Represent text documents using features related to text word frequency, parts of speech and sentiment
  • Represent text documents using vectorized features like bag-of-words, TF-IDF, and document similarity
  • Use the concepts of information retrieval and document similarity (e.g. in applications like recommender systems)
  • Perform unsupervised NLP using techniques like keyphrase extraction, topic modeling and text summarization

  • Leverage pre-trained models for part-of-speech (POS) tagging and named entity recognition (NER)
  • Develop supervised models to classify documents
  • Specify and run artificial neural networks and deep networks
  • Explain how deep networks represent words as binary vectors
  • Use recurrent neural networks for sequential learning (sequence-to-sequence modeling)
  • Use attention models to improve predictive performance

Prerequisites

This Mastery Series require some familiarity with Python and with predictive modeling, as well as Bayesian statistics. The following courses are recommended but not required.

I like the format of those courses. There is a lot to learn, but it's concentrated on the key points. For somebody working full time it beats a semester-long course.
