Overview

Today, the "big" in "big data" is coming increasingly from unstructured text. Mastering that text data is what text mining and analytics is all about. In this 3-course Mastery Series, you will cover the basics of text mining and Natural Language Processing (NLP) while learning important methods of mining and analyzing text data using Python and NLTK – the Natural Language Tool Kit.  This Series will enable you to perform meaningful analyses with text and apply them into your projects, software, and real-world applications so you can use these skills immediately in your work or learning practicum.

  • Data Scientist
  • Digital Marketer
  • Analytics Manager
  • IT Programmers/Developers
  • Scientists
  • Statisticians

Learning Outcomes

With a Text Mining and Analytics Record of Mastery, you will have an in-depth understanding of how to develop natural language applications, how to perform meaningful analyses with text and apply them to real-world applications, using Python and NLTK. You will also be able to:
  • Correctly understand and produce regular expressions
  • Understand and give examples of N-grams and their role in probabilistic language prediction
  • Assign (tag) parts of speech to words in a corpus
  • Use semantic analysis to understand and disambiguate word meanings
  • Gain a basic familiarity with the language tools that are available in NLTK
  • Implement those tools on their own corpora as well as be able to practice with the included corpora that come with NLTK
  • Create language models from a corpus, and be able to compute significant collocations from the text
  • Train a classifier using both Naive Bayes and maximum entropy to determine the accuracy of the classifier using cross-validation and employ these classifiers effectively in a variety of settings

I like the format of those courses. There is a lot to learn, but it's concentrated on the key points. For somebody working full time it beats a semester-long course.
